  1. Each time the referee calls “Stop!” the relative foot positions as described above (3) will be resumed before the competition may continue.
  2. On the referees’ command of “Contact”, arm contact will be made as described above (3). On the referees’ command of “Begin”, the competitors will commence pushing.

  4. Should a competitor receive an injury and decide not to continue the bout he / she should disengage from the opponent and indicate this intention to the referee by the lifting of both hands above their head.
  5. It is acceptable to push the legs resulting in a loss of balance, but NOT the joints.
  6. The referee will indicated scoring intent by lifting the relevant arm to the contesting achieving the score. Points will be indicated by the number of fingers raised. The referee will face the judges table and will voice his awarded points. This scoring will take place immediately before reengaging the competitors.
  7. Although the object of this event appears to be to keep the feet still it is not. The object is to make you opponent lose their balance. To that end the referee will make a decision when awarding points as to whether the technique employed was ‘sacrificial’ i.e.; if a competitor throws him or herself onto their opponent in an ‘out of balance manoeuvre’ that intended to upset the foot positions before the ‘fall’ upsets their own. This may result in no points being awarded and if the manoeuvre is potentially dangerous, a warning being given (see Fouls, Penalties and Disqualifications below).

AWARDING OF POINTS:

Points will be awarded by the referee. The points will be recorded by the score keeper (referees table). The competitor accumulating the higher number of points from the three sections will be announced the winner by the chief referee.

1)     TWO Points will be awarded when a contestant is clearly thrown to the ground i.e. when both hands and knees or buttocks contact the floor.

2)     ONE Point will be awarded when a contestant cause an opponent to lose balance causing any part of the body above and including the knee, to touch the ground. When a contestant is losing their balance and so grabs the opponents clothing, the two points will be awarded to the opponent.

3)     ONE Point will be awarded when a contestant raises his / her entire foot from the floor, steps off balance in any direction or raises part of the rear foot from the floor. The sole of the front foot may be raised provided the heel remains in contact with the floor at all times.

4)     NO Points will be awarded if both contestants lose their balance at the same time in the same exchange of movement.
